“Twin blades.” The suggestion was uttered quietly and vaguely. “Use it to forge twin blades. There’s enough here to bond a pair completely… Actually,” Here, the Sandaime looked absently across his placing to his fellow shinobi, the pair on par with each other by their years. “I would even commission them of you.”
There was so much to consider in a child’s development; Konoha Ai wasn’t a paradox or puzzle, and she was nothing complicated either, nothing differentiating by much from the usual draw of youth. It wasn’t hard to trace the girl’s behavior and know her a little bit, but Sarutobi knew what it was like to raise children, and the interference taken by others could prevent one’s opportunity to learn and acquire by themselves. It was part of the reason why he’d told Iruka to be harsh with them in training; genin had to partially raise themselves, and partially grow off of each other.
“Your girl is nothing like Orochimaru, though perhaps she has the potential steam to drive her away from Konoha. Should she leave these walls, Ai will never make the status of kunoichi; your granddaughter will run herself over, Suoh, but she needs to acquire faith and belief, experience and knowledge… without you. She needs to know what life can be like; in a way, her lack of relation to her family takes away from her, and her inability to completely detach herself from the Konoha clan cripples her.” He let the silence hang a moment before continuing. “This is where you choose. Will you keep her with you, Suoh, and protect her if the choice was yours – or would you cut away from her, and let her to suffer alone?”
Listen carefully, Ai, though I daresay you don’t realize I know you there.
