Basic Information
Name: Sabaku no Gaara
Age: Thirteen
Gender: Male
Rank: Genin
Appearance: Gaara certainly isn’t your average Joe, and thus his appearance differs from the rest. Whether it be his bright red hair or the fact he has no eyebrows (xD) he’s never really fit in with the appearance of his family. He wears an attire consisting of black pants ending mid-shin, a black t-shirt layered with fishnet and a white piece of fabric draped across his body from right shoulder to left side. Bandages are wrapped around his legs and feet; shoes being your average, dark blue shinobi sandals. The large gourd used to transport his sand is attached to a large, leather strap that buckles diagonally on the front, steadied by a few smaller leather straps on his right side. He is quite pale despite the fact of constant sun upon him from his desert home. Insomnia has taken it’s toll as well; dark black circles surround his aquamarine eyes. The kanji for 'love' is scarred on the left side of his forehead; written in blood.
Personality: Having a dark past has imprinted Gaara in ways both physical and mental. Physically being the kanji upon his forehead. Mentally is much more complicated. His mind is unstable due to insomnia and the demon Shukaku residing within him. He has an insufferable blood lust, thinking that he must kill to maintain is living stature. Gaara tends to be quiet, elusive and mysterious, never opening up to the world around him. For he loves and fights for only himself, and thus has no will to be friendly with any other being. When fighting there are no choices other than life or death. He kills his opponents quickly, without thought. On some occasions his blood lust will begin taking over his being and must be stopped by another person.
History: {I'm so awesome, copied Wikipedia's history for Gaara. xD}
Prior to Gaara's birth, Sunagakure saw a series of budget cuts that made it difficult for the village to operate. As a result, Gaara's father ordered Chiyo to seal the One-Tailed Shukaku within Gaara during his birth in the hopes that he would become the ultimate weapon for the village. Because a sacrifice was needed, Gaara's mother, Karura, was used. Before she died, Karura cursed Sunagakure, hoping Gaara would avenge her death. As with the other demon hosts, Gaara acquired a physical trait of the tailed beast inside him - in his case, dark rings around his eyes resembling those of the Shukaku.
Gaara was trained by his father, but raised mainly by his maternal uncle, Yashamaru. Because of the power of Shukaku, the villagers of Sunagakure hated and feared Gaara, seeing him only as the monster sealed within him. For a time, Yashamaru seemed to be the only person who cared about him; when he would mistakenly harm others due to the subconscious abilities granted to him by Shukaku, Yashamaru would be the only one who understood that Gaara hadn't intended to harm anyone. Gaara's father, however, did not see him in the same light, and viewed his frequent attacks upon villagers as a result of a failed experiment that was a threat to the village.
Because of the danger Gaara represented, his father asked Yashamaru to kill Gaara. As a result, Yashamaru tried to assassinate Gaara, though Gaara's abilities defeated him with ease. Although Gaara tried to dismiss this attack as an order of the Kazekage, Yashamaru corrected him by saying that he had willingly accepted the mission. Having never truly loved Gaara, Yashamaru hoped that killing him would avenge the death of his sister, who had named Gaara after the phrase "a self-loving carnage" (Ware wo ai suru shura), a sign of her hate for Gaara. In a last effort to kill him, Yashamaru detonated a number of explosive tags covering his body, asking Gaara to "please die". Gaara survived the blast without injury and lost the only person he thought had cared for him. And for the next six years, since he became six years old, Gaara would encounter many assassins, sent by his father.
Battle Information
Weapons: Being the carrier of Ichibi no Shukaku, Gaara has direct control over the element of sand. Though, the sand he carries in the large gourd upon his back has melded with his own chakra, thus making the sand easier to bend to his will. This sand is not only a weapon, as it protects the user from attacks either associated with an enemy or himself. In times that Gaara must use more drastic measures and powerful jutsu, he uses a bit of sand to dig into the earth itself and take sand from the ground giving him a near endless supply of sand at his disposal.
Known Jutsu:
Suna Bunshin- (Sand Clone) This jutsu creates a clone of Gaara out of sand. Perhaps the most versatile of all clones, this variant does not disperse when hit. When attacked, the affected area turns back into sand and snags the opponent. Major damage must be caused to actually disperse the clone (destroying its head, for instance); otherwise, it can simply reform.
While Gaara's functional sand clone is quite obviously a clone, Gaara can create non-functional clones that look just like him. These clones, however, are simply hollow shells
Suna Shigure- (Sand Drizzle) This jutsu is an alternative to Gaara's Desert Coffin; it gathers sand in the air and then targets the opponent from above, covering them in a rain of sand. Can also be formed into needle-like projectiles which he fires at an opponent.
Suna Shuriken- (Sand Shuriken) Once Gaara begins transforming into Shukaku, he can throw shuriken made from sand. Unlike regular shuriken, these are merely fast-moving balls of sand that cause blunt trauma, not actual wounds. They are thrown much faster than regular shuriken; therefore, the pain caused can be considerable.
Daisan no Me- (Third Eye) This jutsu creates a floating eyeball out of sand that is connected to Gaara's optic nerves. Gaara can control the size of the eye depending on its use. Its main purpose is spying, since it can form and disperse in any location on command.
*Fûton: Renkûdan- (Wind Release: Drilling Air Bullet) Shukaku takes a deep breath, distending his stomach, and punches himself in the gut, shooting a large ball of compressed air and chakra at an opponent, causing an enormous conflagration if it hits.
Suna no Yoroi- (Sand Armor) Using this jutsu, Gaara can cover himself in a compacted layer of sand, providing an additional defense should his Shield of Sand fail. Though quite effective, maintaining the armor requires a large amount of chakra and stamina.
Sabaku Kyû- (Desert Coffin) This jutsu uses sand to grab the opponent and cover their entire body. This skill is primarily utilized for rendering an opponent immobile, but can kill the opponent by suffocation or by being followed with the Desert Funeral, which crushes them.
Sabaku Sôsô- (Desert Funeral) After wrapping an opponent with sand, Gaara will cause the sand to implode and crush whatever is within. When used to kill a person, the death is so quick that there isn't even time to feel pain. The pressure also produces a sizable fountain of blood. Gaara can control the pressure used in the attack, which allows him to merely break bones or completely liquefy an opponent.
Sabaku Taisô- (Desert Imperial Funeral) Following the Quicksand in the Style of a Waterfall, Gaara slams both hands palm down into the sand, creating powerful shockwaves that compress the sand. Anything buried in the sand is subsequently crushed.
Sabaku Rô- (Desert Prison) This jutsu is a massive version of Gaara's Desert Coffin, using an entire desert's worth of sand to trap an opponent.
Sabaku Fuyû- (Desert Suspension) Using his sand as a platform, Gaara is able to float in the air.
Tanuki Neiri no Jutsu- (Feigning Sleep Technique) Once Gaara assumes his full Shukaku form, he can use this jutsu to put himself to sleep, allowing Shukaku's spirit to take over.
Saikô Zettai Bôgyo: Shukaku no Tatte- (Last Absolute Defense: Shield of Shukaku) Using sand, Gaara can create a toy-like replica of Shukaku roughly twice his size. The replica is created with extreme pressure and the hardest minerals in the area combined with his chakra, making it virtually indestructible. Although this technique requires a lot of chakra, it does provide for a very powerful defense. The main drawback is that the replica is immobile, which restricts its usage in most situations.
Gokusamaisô- (Prison Sand Burial) Using this jutsu, Gaara can quickly loosen the ground below his opponent and cause them sink beneath hundreds of meters of sand. Gaara then compresses the sand to such an extent that his opponent is unable to even move a finger. Gaara uses the technique without naming it.
Ryûsa Bakuryû- (Quicksand in the Style of a Waterfall) This jutsu creates a massive amount of sand and sends it towards an opponent in the form of a wave, covering and engulfing them in an ocean of sand. In addition to the wave effect of the jutsu, Gaara can control the sand, allowing him to attack his opponent while they attempt to evade the wave. This appears to be the only one of Gaara's moves that requires hand seals, and in practice is virtually unavoidable. Once completed, it can cover an entire forest in sand. The follow up move is Desert Imperial Funeral, which compresses all the sand present, crushing the opponent.
