BOREDOM, part two.
A dark, mysterious figure swooped down from the cloudy atmosphere. It’s long, torn demonic wings spread out, supporting it’s own body as it flew down to a barren wasteland of nothingness. The body let out a disappointed grunt as it’s giant black feet touched the ground, stepping onto a small patch of light, which, as it turned out, wasn’t any brighter than it’s dull surroundings - much like a rainy day. The ‘thing’ was revealed to be a faceless, black monster, wearing a crimson cloak, and outlined by a fragile white line.
“This place is… hopeless.” Was the only thing it could say as it observed everything around it, watching as several other creatures with different appearances gambled and talked to one another. It only saw one or two writing names in a black notebook, their hands shaking.
A skeletal body snickered, watching the two writing in their notebooks. “Why are you two wasting your time writing names down in that damned book? Do you two actually see any sort of hope for this place? Do you think it’ll be as comfortable as it once was a long time ago? Hell, was it any better than this a long time ago? You must idolize Ryuuk, he still wishes that apples here were ‘fresh’ again.”
“…I-I… I don’t idolize him!” One of them shot back, dropping their pen in the process. It’s voice was quite feminine even though the monster looked like a male. “’Sides! You’re one of the younger shinigami! You don’t know anything about Ryuuk at all! All you know about what your friends and mentors tell you!”
The younger shinigami rolled it’s eyes. “I believe what I want to.” He said, arrogantly.
“Whatever you say…”
The faceless individual shook it’s head as it studied the discussion (or, rather, an argument). It might have been faceless, but it still had eyes - the eyes were invisible to everything but thyself. Much like it‘s eyes, the creature‘s mouth, hands, and legs were invisible as well.
“What’re they talking about now, Remus?” A bluish creature questioned, appearing beside the faceless one, it’s large round, yellow eyes staring blankly ahead, not taking the time to turn to the one he was talking to. His mouth was open, revealing shark-like teeth. His lips curled into a smile.
The anonymous shinigami (his name apparently being Remus) blinked, somewhat astonished that someone was talking to him. “Oh…! Hello, Ryuuk.” It paused for a moment, still watching the two argue about who’s beliefs were better. “I think… I think they’re talking about you, Ryuuk.”
“Me? What a surprise.” He responded, sarcastically, taking a bite into an apple, the pupils of his eyes growing small as he took a bite, his smile still remaining on his face.
Remus offered a pathetic smile, although Ryuuk couldn't see it. “Well, you are old Ryuuk.”
“Hyuk, hyuk. That I am - and I don’t plan to die of old age anytime soon.”
There was silence between the two shinigami for a moment.
Ryuuk finally turned his head towards Remus. “…this place is quite boring, don’t you think? Doesn‘t it get old watching the same shinigami doing everything they did yesterday today, and waiting for them to do something different tomorrow?”
Remus was hesitant at responding. “…yes, it does…”
“…drop your notebook in the human realm. If you do that, something’s bound to change while your spending your time down there!”
“What!? Just give my notebook to a group of teenagers!? Watch as a teenager picks it up and uses it to create a ‘hit-list’ and end up killing hundreds of people?”
“Yes. Hyuk, hyuk. It’s fun.”
Remus stared at Ryuuk in horror, watching as the bluish shinigami just stood there, smiling at him, his eyes bulging out of his head. Maybe, Remus thought, maybe the other shinigami are right, maybe Ryuuk is insane… too many apples, maybe?
Ryuuk looked so strange, always smiling, but every shinigami had one facial expression they always had on their face when calm. Remus’s happened to be something that appeared to be a determined one, one that said that he wanted to be someone. That he was determined to change the way of the shinigami. Now, he was following Ryuuk’s dream. (Of course, Ryuuk only did it for the apples, as the ones in the Shinigami realm were dry, nearly rotten - and mainly tasteless.)
“Fine.” Remus muttered. He was tired of studying the other shinigami all day, anyway. What could stalking a human hurt? Besides, they were bound to get rid of the notebook, anyway. Probably because they were TOO scared or something. Humans... being frightened of the littlest of things.
“Hyuk, hyuk, hyuk.” Ryuuk laughed. “I knew you’d give in sooner...”
AUTHOR'S NOTE: I do not own Death Note, and if I did, I'd FORCE Viz Media to translate it, then FORCE Cartoon Network to put it on Adult Swim, because that‘s the only place where I can watch anime. End.
Also, this is my FIRST Death Note story - it's also my first story since I was about nine or ten, so reviews are helpful REALLY, REALLY, REALLY helpful.
...and if you read the manga at all, you know that Boredom is the name of the first chapter, thus my name for Boredom part two.[/sub][/font][/ul]
