Name: Sarutobi Age: 69 Gender: Male Rank: Sandaime Hokage; Third Generation Fire Shadow Appearance: At 5’4” and weighing 112 lbs, the Sandaime Hokage is a man with a decidedly less amount of hair, now being white with old age, than he had when it was still black in his youth. With a sharp, pointed beard lightened of color, the sun-tanned shinobi’s skin is heavy upon him, wrinkled from the burden of his years. Despite being slightly shrug-shouldered with age, the man is thin and wiry, his hands calloused and strong, fingernails cut short and clean. His hairline has retreated sharply in the years, making the white tufts give him an almost endearingly monkey-like appearance. Bright autumn eyes, fiercer than Tsunade’s, are perhaps the most drawing thing about his sunken features; prominent cheek bones and deep creases (worry lines, laugh lines, all the marks of an elder) bring a formidable dash to him when his rage is provoked, yet give him a soft and fatherly effect when he smiles (which is all the time for pretty young ladies and children). Distinct dots of discoloration mark his left cheek and a mole or wart is noted upon his nose, his sharp gaze is accented by marks curling down from his eyes; a set of three slashes, going along his cheeks, are positioned diagonally so the ends head farther out of his face. His nose is hooked (perhaps broken in battle – or a sever nosebleed maltreated from his more… mischievous days), he’s most often seen in full Kage regalia and with his smoking pipe in hand. Sarutobi wears the ceremonial Hokage robes at all times, despite how troublesome they may be; a loose red robe belted at the waist by a white, plain-cloth sash covers his figure, and heavy white material is wrapped like an over-bearing scarf about his neck, forging the effect of a large collar. Wearing a white robe over this with baggy shoulders, the garments are always clean and undoubtedly inconvenient to deal with, though the Hokage manages them without complaint. His headdress is marked with red upon the front, a symbol representing fire, against a sharp triangle of white, the rest of the hat being red and rimmed with white. White fabric falls from the edges and down to the shoulders, completely concealing his hair and framing his aging face. However, beneath these clothes are yet another layer of garments, making one sure that the Hokage has nothing against the heat. The black shinobi garb he adorns is comparable to the outfit he wore at a younger age. A samurai’s helmet is placed on its head, the metal top rounded and black and bearing Konohagakure no Sato’s hitai-ite. Hammered metal plates fall around the sides of his head, unsprayed, revealing why the Hokage always wears the ceremonial headdress – to hide the armor falling around his face; the back of the helmet has two black tails whipping from their place, pinned, black, and lengthy. His outfit is a black ninja suit, with the arms going to mid-way down his forearms and the leggings along to mid-calf, revealing net undergarments of full length over pale teal/grey wrappings which go to his wrists and ankles. This battle costume is tied at the waist by a thin black belt, simple sandals cladding the Hokage’s feet. Metal plates cover the backs of his arms from wrist to elbow, and a back-plate which extends portions over both shoulders like clasps sport the mark of flame behind him. | |
Personality: Compassionate, intelligent, and well-loved, Sarutobi is perhaps an epitome of Konohakagure’s “will of fire”; he could be seen as the father to every one of his people, loving each independently and feeling for every one of them as an extension to his soul. Forgiveness and care embedded into his very soul by the ones who raised him, the Sandaime Hokage struggles to keep his people safe and to ensure that war never touches them as it had him. Sarutobi has a wisdom that surpasses logic, contempt, and any and all sufferance he might endure; this may be considered a weakness to some, but it would be the Sandaime’s greatest quality. His acceptance for circumstance and the nature of society is admirable, and he demonstrates it by his tender attentions to the unwanted Uzumaki Naruto; forbidding all to refer to him in any way relating to the Kyuubi sealed within him, Sarutobi is perhaps one of the few individuals who see Naruto as a child seeking guidance and attention as opposed to a troublesome prankster, monster, and pest. Encouraging and explaining matters to those who might help the boy’s situation the most, he convinced one Umino Iruka to realize that Naruto was not the fox which slew his parents – but instead an orphan, like himself, to be loved, care for, and sympathized with. Likewise he expresses firm faith in both Sand and Sound, though that doesn’t stop him from being cautious; Sarutobi is firm on his thoughts that peace should be the final reign of life, and for no one will he alter this opinion. Known as the “Professor”, Sarutobi is extremely talented, said to know all Jutsu mastered in Konoha. In fact, it was by his hand that a number were invented; the Sandaime knows all theory, problems, and solutions to Jutsu, and is often used as a guide by those developing new techniques. Sarutobi has an extremely supressed inner lech; in his younger days, he invited to assist Jiraiya with a Jutsu designed to spy on bathing women. As an elder, the Sandaime appears to be beyond such things and is no longer such a mischievous pervert; however, Naruto’s harem Jutsu greatly alarms him nowadays, and he enjoys polite conversation with pretty young ladies. |
History: Born on February 8, the spirited child of the Sarutobi line was a boy of great potential; a near absolute genius, the child learned much faster than any of his peers, catching on quickly to techniques and jutsus and showing a great understanding of their make-up. Perhaps it wasn’t clear from that point onward how far, exactly, young Sarutobi would go, but perhaps it was in the foresight of his two sensei that he would later become something akin to the “God of Shinobi”.
With team mates Koharu and Homura, who would later work alongside him in the village council, the young genin was placed in a team with the Shodai and Nidaime Hokages themselves; the pair affectionately nicknamed him ‘Monkey’ after his name, and raised him to be a ninja of remarkable notice. It was they who taught Sarutobi the true “will of fire”, that would unite the souls of Konoha to protect all their people no matter what circumstance befell upon them. The Shodai explained to him, once, that every one of the civilians and country-men of Fire territory made up his limbs, and it was these people who would forever claim his heart; the man’s brother, the Nidaime, told him that they raised him together for great duty, and that one day Sarutobi must also bring up one he trusts and loves thusly to take the role and legacy he might one day leave behind. From that day on, he was the Sandaime Hokage: Third Generation Fire Shadow. Amongst these days, Sarutobi took on a Genin team of his own; young Tsunade, grand-daughter to the Shodai, and close to him already for that reason; the awe-inspiring prodigy, Orochimaru; and the dead-last, number one pervert and hyperactive ninja – Jiraiya. These would later grow to become the Sannin in their own right, a perfect balance amongst them, even manifesting in their summons: Snake, Slug, and Toad, participants in the unsteady game of Jakkin. At first, he ignored the tendencies in his favorite, the snake-eyed and handsome Orochimaru; he was like the child of a dream in that war, everything they needed. He and his team, which would later become the Legendary Sannin of Konohagakure, took lives and saved them on the field of battle while at war with Suna. They were formidable, the finest, and no man could down any of these ninja – or their sensei. Time wore on, however, and all good things must come to an end. Tsunade suffered trauma; she withdrew from her profession, taking an apprentice under her wing and vanishing altogether soon enough. The last link he had aside from memory to his two sensei was finally gone, and so he turned his eye back to his favorite, his Master Student – and recoiled in horror at what he saw. As he neared retirement, he realized with utmost pain that he’d erred in raising this most notable of his pupils; instead, he allowed the council to select one of Jiraiya’s students, Minato Namikaze, to replace him and become the Yondaime Hokage – the Yellow Flash took the dream Orochimaru had aimed for, and the serpent-sannin was thrown into something beyond rage. The last blow was struck when Sarutobi unearthed, wholly and completely, the true nature of his pupil: that of a monster. He and a band of elites broke into a trap-strewn hideout, risking themselves with ease for a prize he didn’t want to find: the sight of Orochimaru standing above a corpse, not honoring it but experimenting it. Perhaps, Sarutobi would concede, it was his own fault; a day over the graves of Orochimaru’s parents, they’d seen a snake-skin, and he had remarked to the boy that perhaps they would live again. Orochimaru sought immortality. And so, the Sandaime, making as though to attack him, tried to force his will to initiate combat – but no, he was too soft. He couldn’t. And with realization in his hand and his love for his pupil torn forcefully away, the Sandaime suffered the second loss of the Legends he created. The Third and final piece of his legacy went in pursuit of the second. This one, at least, held true to all he’d taught them. Somewhere along the line, Sarutobi became a father of two sons, one of which was Sarutobi Sasuke; by the other, he received a grand-son, a prankster child named Konohamaru who would later try everything he could to best his grandfather. Perhaps he would’ve retired calm and happy, his Sannin failure aside; this was not to be, however. When the Kyuubi struck, the Yellow Flash confided a desperate plan to the Sandaime, and Sarutobi learned of a Jutsu he was better of forgetting. However, that night, the talented Arashi sealed away the bijuu inside an infant, orphaned boy, ending the streams of massacres by its claws. Instead of allowing a new Hokage to be chosen, perhaps in reproach for his own near disaster in selecting an individual, the Sandaime Hokage came out of retirement to care for his treasure. Watching its people using his Toomegane no Jutsu, he ensures that all is well in this paradise that he has dedicated his soul to – perhaps knowing now that to attach one self to a single person betrays those that brought him up. |

BATTLE INFORMATION:
Weapons: Chiefly, the transformed Enkouou Enma as a diamond-hard back-staff (Nyoibo), the Sandaime Hokage is also known to carry Jutsu scrolls, shuriken and kunai.
Known Jutsus: Ayatsuito no Jutsu; String Reeling Technique A close-range supplementary Jutsu, this technique consists of the use of ninja wire in the function of grappling, tying down an opponent, or otherwise restricting their movement. It may also be used in conjunction with a Katon Jutsu in order to pull off the dragon fire technique. Bikou Ninjutsu; Shadowing Stealth Technique A general ninja technique, the Bikou Ninjutsu is the art of shadowing a target unseen. The methods used often vary depending on a ninja’s personal talents, from body flickers, to chakra suppression, to hiding behind and beneath objects and lurking in the shadows. Bunshin no Jutsu; Clone Technique (Art of the Doppelganger) Another general skill, the Bunshin no Jutsu creates an illusionary copy of the castor which, when correctly performed, is an exact replica in every manner but body mass. Used mostly as a distraction in combat, and a means to confuse a lesser opponent, these copies dissipate as soon as struck. Doton • Doro Gaeshi; Mud Overturn This Earth style Jutsu differs from Sarutobi’s usual style though was learned amidst his studies as the ninja ‘Professor’. A defensive Ninjutsu, the user strikes the ground with their hands, causing a large shield of Earth to jut out defensively before them. This C-rank Jutsu, being a close-range attack, is not altogether perfect, as harsh impacts and drilling Ninjutsu can force the wall to crumble or otherwise penetrate it. Doton • Doryuudan; Earth Dragon Projectile Utilizing the Earth Element, this Ninjutsu involves a series of handseals is used in the aftermath of the Doryuu Taiga technique; manipulating the river of mud created by it, the user will shape the torrent to create a large dragon which will then blast mud-made projectiles from its jaws. Doton • Doryuu Heki; Earth Style Wall This B-rank defensive Jutsu was designed as a combat shield; after performing the needed handseals, the ninja initiating this technique will spew forth a torrent of mud, drawing a sharp line before them with it. From this designed marking a wall of earth will rise to prevent damage to the user. Doton • Doryuu Jouheki; Earth Style Rampart Doing the necessary hand seals, a large, earthen rampart will rise beneath the castor to a towering height. In theory, a ninja who can perform both Doton and Suiton Jutsu may use this technique in order to form a waterfall, or with a wood technique to create a net-of-thorns. Doton • Doryuu Taiga; Earth Flow River This close-range defensive Jutsu is initiated by a series of hands seals, upon which the ground beneath the castor’s opponent will morph into a river of mud. Doton • Retsudo Tenshou; Revolving Split Earth Palm This C-rank technique can be used for close-to-far range combat. After performing the needed hand seals, the user slams their palms to the ground, causing all the surrounding earth and rock to churn and twist up, crushing any opponent unlucky enough to be targeted. Doton • Shinjuu Zanshu no Jutsu; Double Suicide Decapitation Technique (Earth Style: Groundhog Technique Decapitation) An earth manipulation Jutsu, this technique enables a ninja to travel undetected beneath the ground; after locating a target, the ninja can grab a hold of their opponent and drag them into the earth, often up to their necks. In this fashion, they can completely immobilize the opponent or move about undetected. Doton • Yomi Numa - Swamp of the Underworld A close-to-far range technique unsuitable for densely populated areas, the Yomi Numa will create a swamp of vast proportions in which to trap his enemy; typically, after forming the needed hand seals, its purpose is to sink/drown the target within its muddy depths. While the size of the swamp will mostly come out as desired, the depth will be compensated if the user’s chakra is drained, making the castor unable to sink his or her intended target. Henge no Jutsu; Transformation Technique The Henge no Jutsu allows a ninja to alter their appearances, and is used to disguise themselves or impersonate other individuals. Jibaku Fuda: Kassei (Exploding Tag: Activate) This allows the user to set off exploding tags from a distance with Chakra. Kage Bunshin no Jutsu; Shadow Clone Technique (Art of the Doppelganger; Shadow Clone Jutsu) This B-rank technique is a general jounin skill. Whereas normal Bunshin lack substance, Kage Bunshin equally distributes a ninja’s provided chakra into each clone he creates, thus performing an actual copy of themselves as opposed to an illusion. Acting as a link to the castor and to other clones, each individual Kage Bunshin is capable of utilizing any technique its castor is able to perform, and as soon as a clone is defeated, whatever information it has gathered, or experience it has gained, is given back to the castor and all additional bunshin the castor has created. Kage Shuriken no Jutsu; Shadow Shuriken Technique (Art of the Shadow Shuriken) A Mid-to-Far range Jutsu, the user of this technique will perform it by means of a giant Fuuma Shuriken. When throwing the shuriken, the ninja will also throw a second giant shuriken to hide in the shadow of the first. The hidden secondary shuriken can then approach the target without them being aware. Kai; Release A Higher level general skill, the Release technique is a Ninjutsu which disrupts the flow of chakra within one’s mind in order to throw off a Genjutsu; the higher the level of the Genjutsu, the more difficult it is to cast away. Individuals who cannot escape a Genjutsu on their own will need the assistance of a partner in order to escape their mental torment; After forming the needed hand seals, the ninja touches his ally and sends a shot of his own chakra into their energy circulation, disrupting the flow and breaking the Genjutsu. Kakuremino no Jutsu; Magic Cloak of Invisibility Technique Kakuremino no Jutsu is a very basic Ninjutsu technique. The ninja uses a camouflage cloth to cloak themselves in the background. Kanashibari no Jutsu This close-to-mid range Jutsu is an advanced Ninjutsu technique used to temporarily bind an individual or animal. With the person frozen in place, the ninja can either take the opportunity to attack or to retreat. Katon • Haisekishou; Burning Ash Accumulation A close to mid-range attack, this fire-orientated Ninjutsu summons the ability to exhale a large amount of ash from one’s mouth after a number of hand seals. Following this, the user will signal by means of a sound for the Jutsu to proceed, after which the cloud of debris will ignite into an explosion. Katon • Housenka no Jutsu; Mythical Fire Phoenix Technique (Fire Style – Fireball Technique; Blaze of Glory) A close-range C-rank attack, this fire style Ninjutsu is utilized by means of hand seals; the castor will emit a series of small fire balls which they may hurl amidst the flames, embedding each with a blade thus concealed b the Housenka. The opponent will only note the fire balls and may be capable of dousing them, at which point the blades will be revealed heading straight towards him. Katon • Karyuudan; Fire Dragon Projectile This B-rank close range attack is used in conjunction with the Doryuudan technique at times; used to ignite projectiles, the ninja may choose to hurl mud projectiles at the opponent then blow a stream of fire upon them in order to ignite them. Katon • Karyuu Endan; Fire Dragon Flame Projectile A B-rank close-to-mid range attack, the Karyuu Endan is initiated by a string of hand seals before the user blasts a large jet of fire from their mouth. Katon • Ryuuka no Jutsu; Dragon Fire Technique A mid-range technique utilizing fire Jutsu and Ninja wire, the user will bind their opponent and use a kind wire to direct a torrential stream of flame at their opponent, unleashed from their mouths. Kawara Shuriken; Roof Tile Shuriken This close range attack is an advanced Ninjutsu utilizing foreign objects in place of weaponry (in this specific case, the heavy roof tiling used by Konoha buildings); using the castor’s chakra, the objects (roof tiles) are levitated into the air and hurled at the target using mental power alone. Kawarimi no Jutsu; Change of Body Stance Technique (Art of Substitution) A Ninjutsu in which the shinobi switches places with another object, or even another person entirely. This is used solely as a strategic jutsu. Kori Shinchuu no Jutsu; Sly Mind Affect Technique A mid-to-far range technique, this Genjutsu causes the target to endure traveling repeatedly in circles, exhausting themselves mentally and physically. This being said, the target is unable to detect the Genjutsu easily in the least, often leading to a successful attack by the user. Kuchiyose no Jutsu; Spiritualism Technique This powerful C-rank Jutsu allows a ninja to summon animal familiars, objects or even spirits to their aid in any situation (though the summons, having their own personalities as separate entities, may become angered, agitated, refuse to fight, or turn on the castor, depending on their temperament and if the situation suits them). In the case of an animal species, the ninja will require the signing of a blood contract which allows him to summon different size and skill levels of creature. The Sandaime Hokage, Sarutobi, summons monkeys in particular, his name meaning “Flying Monkey”. Kuchiyose: Enkouou Enma; Monkey King Enma - Henge • Kongounyoi; Transform • Diamond-Like Hardness
The monkey king, Enma, uses this Jutsu to morph into an almost indestructible staff (Nyoibo) which, at his will, can extend its length and – additionally – morph in order to accommodate parts of his own body and manipulate them thusly. Very few things can defeat this staff; Orochimaru’s legendary Grass Longsword, the Kusanagi, is one such device that can actually cause damage to Enma in this form.
- Konbi Henge no Jutsu; Combination Transformation Technique
This supplementary B-rank technique allows two ninja – or else, a ninja and a familiar – to transform themselves temporarily as a pair into another person or thing. In this format of Henge, they can use to their advantage the physical characteristics of what they impersonate. In theory, this may be used with more than two ninja in combination. · - Kongou Rouheki; Indestructible Prison Wall
This defensive technique is utilized by Enkouou Enma by means of his Henge ability; after using the Kongounyoi form, Enma can multiply himself in staff form to create a prison around the target. Used defensively, he may choose to ensnare the opponent, or else build himself up around Sarutobi in order to shield him from attack; due to the fact that the Monkey King’s staff form is almost indestructible anyway, this prison/shield can hold its ground against a great deal of damage.
Kuchiyose • Tobidougu; Projectile Weapons This summoning Ninjutsu is used to equip a ninja with a greater number of weapons than they are usually able to carry; by packing them into a summoning scroll, the user is able to unravel the parchment and cast this Jutsu in order to project weapons from within the compact object. Magen • Jigoku Gouka no Jutsu; Demonic Illusion • Hell Fire Technique This harsh Genjutsu makes the target witness a giant fire-ball, created by the castor, descend from the sky and engulf them in a whirl of flame. The purpose of this Genjutsu is to cause the enemy to flee, believing that they’re burning alive. Magen • Narakumi no Jutsu; Demonic Illusion • Hell Viewing Technique This D-rank Genjutsu is initiated by the snake hand seal; a whirlwind of leaves will surround the target, hypnotizing them by means of their movements, before falling away. When the hypnosis is complete, the ninja will not remember having it cast upon them, seeing nothing abnormal about their world and its surroundings at present; soon enough, however, whatever desired illusion the castor has in store for their target will manifest itself, used to terrorize the target completely. Shiki Fuujin Snake, boar, ram, rabbit, dog, rat, bird, horse, snake; this terrible combination of hand seals combine into an S-class technique created by the Yondaime Hokage and confided to the Sandaime. Used only in the worst possible scenario and only as a last resort, this Jutsu results in eternal suffering for all parties involved. “A variation of this technique was used to seal the Kyuubi within Naruto…After calling forth the Shinigami (Death God) with the proper handseals, the user will hand over their soul in exchange for the Death God removing the soul from his target. The ultimate sacrificial jutsu, this technique can be used by a Kage Bunshin, but the Death God will still remove the original caster's soul.
With the jutsu activated, a spectral form of the caster will appear in front of the Death God. The Death God will push his arm through this spectral body, and the arm will extend from the chest of the real caster. This forces the caster to be close or grasping his target. The arm will reach out into the body of the target, and draw their soul from their body. If the Death God is unable to remove the whole soul because of the near death of the caster, it can remove it's knife and merely slice off a portion of the spectral form's soul to consume. This will render the targets corresponding body part dead and useless. The soul portion removed will then be sealed within the chest of the caster. Both the soul of the target and the caster will never pass into the afterlife. They will be condemned to suffer in the Death God's stomach for all eternity, locked in a hated combat, never to escape.” – excerpt from Leafninja.com Shunshin no Jutsu; Body Flicker Technique This basic Ninjutsu is used in order to blink out their presence into a sharp manner, appearing to dissappea altogether in an instant, or even seeming to teleport. This technique allows them to retreat or attack in a sudden fashion, and is often accompanied by some type of distractive display in order to completely conceal their movement; water-oriented nin may use a fog of mist, Suna-nin sand, or Konoha-nin leaves or even smoke. Shuriken Kage Bunshin no Jutsu; Shuriken Shadow Clone Technique This A-rank technique is used to multiply the number of a cast shuriken by using a projected Kage Bunshin no Jutsu; in this way, a ninja can create a torrent of targeting weaponry by aiming only one, provided they spare enough chakra. Alternatively, it may be used with other weapons/objects. Toomegane no Jutsu; Telescope Technique An A-rank, long distance Jutsu, the Toomegane is a Jutsu used soley by the Sandaime Hokage in order to view the village. Using a reflective surface (usually a crystal ball, which has accustomed its properties to this Jutsu in particular), the Third Hokage is able to target places or individuals and everything and anything that might happen there or to them. In this fashion, the Sandaime Hokage is able to know of every event in Konohagakure no Sato. *** Known as the “Professor”, Sarutobi is extremely talented, said to know all Jutsu mastered in Konoha. I take this to mean clan Jutsu and so forth, though likely he never practices them, perferring to use his own Ninjutsu for combat when the need arises. This may also be explained by the fact that Tenko really doesn’t want to write about the other taijutsu, fuuinjutsu, Ninjutsu, and genjutsu utilized by Konoha nin outside of kekkei-genkai. But really – it’s a lot of Jutsu.
Main fighting style: |
Ninjutsu; armed combat. As the so called “Professor” and “God of Ninja”, the Sandaime is unbeatable in the areas of Seal Knowledge (Fuuinjutsu), Ninja Techniques (Ninjutsu), Physical Combat (Taijutsu), Illusion Arts (Genjutsu), and Intelligence (Cunning). However, being notably old for a ninja, Sarutobi-sama’s Stamina (chakra reserve), Speed, and Force (Power) have all dropped; that being said, he can still perform with outstanding ability in all these areas, even in Kage-level combat, and so should not be assumed as crippled.
